I FOUND LOVE IN BALI, AND I ATE AND PRAYED TOO

I once read an article back in my early twenties that mentioned the term nirvana. When I looked it up in the dictionary, its definition intrigued me, and at the same time, I doubted its existence.

Fast forward in Nusa Dua, Bali, as a woman beyond my 20s, solo traveling to celebrate my birthday, with the hope that the heavens would grant me a breakthrough—maybe love. You see, my granddad, a successful lawyer, once told me that finding comfort in the clear waters of a beach provides medicine to the soul. I guess I could say that somehow in my solo travel, I yearned to feel a spiritual connection to my granddad, whom I loved and missed dearly. He was an island boy until his last breath.

I chose Nusa Dua for its sandy beaches and blue waters overlooking the Indian Ocean. Google hails it as the best location in Bali for its luxurious white sand beaches, moderate night parties, tight security, ideal relaxation, and a den of fine dining, which I am fond of.

Birthday Dinner

On my birthday night, I went to a restaurant bar, where I ordered their signature stone-baked seafood pizza. I consumed all of the eight slices without a hint of guilt; that pizza was divine.

While I waited for my order, the restaurateur noticed my table-for-one and asked if she could join me briefly. We had a quick chat as the acoustic live music was playing in the background. I have to be honest—I do find solo dining awkward sometimes, especially on a date night.

So, I would like to express my gratitude to the owner of Philantrophy Restaurant and Bar in Nusa Dua. I found that welcome totally empathetic, as it provided me comfort, which contributed to my satisfying dining experience. At the end of my meal, they presented me with a gift: a black-beaded bracelet, which they said is for special customers like me. I am still wearing the bracelet as a cherished reminder of that night.

After savoring that enjoyable dinner, I capped off my birthday by hopping to another bar on the way to my hotel. There, the bartender crafted one of the best mojitos I’ve ever had, and I sang along to Hotel California, the live band’s final song of the night, which they dedicated to yours truly.

I had one of the best Friday the 13ths of my life.

Description of Nusa Dua

I would like to describe Nusa Dua as a place rich in lush greenery, surrounded by beautiful beaches that are perfect for swimming, and a hive for sleek resto-bars serving delicious cuisine and delightful ice cream flavors. I can wander around safely even at night because the area is well guarded.

Above all, I feel that the locals’ spiritual vibe brings magical energy to the entire island.

Overview of My Journey

So, yes, I received love in Bali, but it wasn’t the kind Javier Bardem offered in that Julia Roberts movie. Instead, it was from the eternal source above me. I believe love has an expansive property. As someone once told me, love is undefinable- it's a feeling, not merely a word.

That supernatural event brought me to tears, filling me with deep gratitude for receiving one of the universe's greatest gifts. Overwhelmed in my hotel room, I kneeled and prayed, something I hadn't done in a long time. I thanked the Almighty for that profound moment.

Great happiness is one of the heavens’ greatest blessings, and He gave that to me on my birthday. I still cry when I think about that mystical occurrence. I couldn’t believe such a thing existed- but it did.

Truly, I found the universe's deep love for me in Bali.

From the first day I arrived, I couldn’t help but feel overjoyed that I kept on smiling throughout the entire trip.

One cool and crisp afternoon on my birthday, I went for a stroll on the boulevard. That’s when it hit me. As the fresh wind swept my face, I sensed the universe’s enchanting frequency.

Immediately, I felt buoyancy in my energy and that everything around me was like a symphony of sheer joy. I couldn’t say I was floating, but at that moment, I had the distinct impression that every part of me had lifted.

Truly, a surge of indescribable bliss engulfed me. What's more, I breathed and expelled an air of happiness in its highest and purest form. If that’s what nirvana is, then the feeling is simply magical.

My only regret on this trip is that I didn't take many great photos. I was too immersed in the experience.
